Meet the Founder
Ms. Alicia Owens is a retired educator of more than 30 years, specializing in special education. Realizing the urgent need for compassionate, culturally-relevant and community-rooted collaboration between educators, families, and young people living with disabilities, Colors in Motion was born.
A long-standing member of the SAG-AFTRA and a seasoned performer herself, Alicia sought to blend her lived and learned experiences in education and performing arts to create opportunities for empowerment in a judgement-free, creative environment for New York City youth and their families.
Drawing on prior work and collaborations with the Hunter College, Alvin Ailey Performing Arts Center and The New York State Department Of Education, Ms. Owens leads movement workshops, organizes community programming, and provides direct support to local youth and their families.
